On track to improve Wellington commute

Motorway congestion in the Wellington region will be eased with the decision by ONTRACK to extend double tracking and electrification of railway lines as far north as Waikanae.

ONTRACK is a division of the New Zealand Railways Corporation that owns and manages the New Zealand rail network.

The work, that is part of the greater Wellington Regional Rail Programme (WRRP), will provide a much improved service for commuters, with trains travelling in both directions simultaneously and on a more regular basis.

ONTRACK recently contracted Patton Engineering to supply the “Traction Masts” to support the electrical cables for this rail extension.  The 350 traction masts range in length from 6.5 metres to 7.85 metres, with the total contract for approx 250 tonnes of steel.

With the first stage only commencing in late May, this is a fantastic project for us to be involved in, and one we are looking forward to.
